Rites of passage are often overlooked in our fast-paced world. At St. John's, we help families acknowledge and celebrate important life passages in ways that have meaning to them. Our programs and liturgies are designed to help families feel the full support of the community at these major transitions in life.
Confirmation
St. John’s offers an innovative confirmation program, Confirm Not Conform, that celebrates questions and choices. The program is based on the belief that the Christian faith will stand up to honest examination, focuses more on asking questions than feeding answers, empowers youth to teach and lead, connects youth with adults in a meaningful way, and respects and celebrates youth’s faithful choice about whether to be confirmed.
The program was developed at St. John’s 25 years ago by the Rector and Youth Director in direct response to the youth. The program proved so successful it spawned a separate non-profit organization to manage and nurture it. Today, the program includes courses for five denominations: Episcopal/Anglican, Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian and UCC/Congregationalist, as well as a curriculum for adults. More than 1,000 churches have purchased CnC and it has impacted many thousands of youth and adults.
