The St. John’s Silent Auction scheduled for August 29th will be like no other! Join us on Zoom from 4-6 pm for a wonderful afternoon of fun and fundraising. It begins with Cocktails Celebrating Connection at 4 pm. Then Jim MacIlvaine will host a live auction hour that includes a special video presentations and a surprise from Rev. Scott. Here’s a Q&A with all you need to know to participate in and enjoy the upcoming auction!
Q: What does it cost to participate in the auction?
It is free to participate and bid in the auction! All you need to do is register online. Once you have registered a link will be sent to your email address.
Q: How do I sign up to donate items for auction?
All you have to do is fill out the Auction Item Submission Form which is on the St. John’s website. The deadline for donations is August 18th. The sooner you send in your form, all the better, so we can promote the donations! We already have a Victorian Christmas Tea, yummy eats like lemon blueberry poundcake, a two-night stay in a Bolinas Cabin overlooking the ocean on offer. Of course, you can “buy” a sermon from Rev. Scott on any topic you wish!
Q: Can I donate valuable objects or items to the auction?
The auction committee has decided to accept “treasured objects” such as fine artwork, jewelry, special edition books and the like. There are two caveats to these types of donations: you must be willing to deliver or mail the object to the buyer and provide us with a photo of the object. Remember that a good photo will help sell your item! The auction committee and staff have no capacity to store or deliver physical goods this year.
Q: What are “Cocktails Celebrating Connection”?
You can purchase specially curated “Appetizer Kits” with Cocktails or Mocktails to enjoy at home or with vaccinated friends in a happy hour from 4-5 pm on Zoom before the live portion of the auction starts at 5 pm. Carolyn George and a professional mixologist Sean Van Straatum will host a happy hour that will inform, delight and entertain you and your guests. These appetizer kits ($40 for alcohol and $25 for non-alcohol) consist of an English Tea box of appetizers, drinks and treats! You do not have to buy an Appetizer Kit to participate in the auction or attend the online event “Cocktails Celebrating Connection.” Tickets for Cocktails Celebrating Connection, are available to purchase at the bottom of the Bidding Owl home page. https://www.biddingowl.com/StJohnsoakland

Q: What will happen in the live portion of the auction at 5 pm?
We are planning special video presentations to update everyone on all the happenings at St. John’s. It will be fast-paced, fun and full of useful info. Our own Jim MacIlvaine will host/emcee the virtual “live” portion of the auction. And, Rev. Scott promises a surprise!
Q: Who is in charge of the auction and who can I call with questions?
We have a fabulous committee of dedicated volunteers chaired by Laurie Bennett putting the auction together. Our dynamic auction committee includes Rev. Jon Owens, Rev. Scott Denman, Anne Meyer, Judi Marr, Sylvia Ahern, Ken Fuller, Carolyn George, Kathy Araujo, Jim MacIlvaine and Pat Harden.
For questions about donations, contact Judi Marr ([email protected]) or Ken Fuller ([email protected]). For questions on Cocktail/Appetizer Kits, contact Carolyn George ([email protected]). For all other questions, our wonderful Chairperson Laurie Bennett ([email protected]) is the best source! All of us on the committee thank you in advance for your support!
