May Day Economic Action

4/23/2026

From Genesis and the St. John's Action & Justice Team:
May Day is a time to use your economic power in support of your values. You may be able to participate in the May Day No work, No school and No shopping boycott but please know there are impactful alternatives too! Consider Banking with Intention, Shopping Wisely and Re-educating/Serving. Interested in learning how? Click this link for more information.
  1. Bank with Intention: Don't allow your money to enrich VISA, Mastercard, etc, which take cuts from each purchase using the card numbers. This is why some small businesses have a minimum purchase amount for credit cards. Get extra cash in advance if you need to.
  2. Shop Wisely:
    1. Avoid Amazon, Target, Home Depot and other corporations that are supporting ICE.
    2. Support businesses that are owned by people from vulnerable populations, using cash only.
  3. Re-Educate and Serve:
    1. Take a break from Social Media--stay off Meta Platforms (Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram) for 24 hours.
    2. Instead, volunteer your time if you can, helping those who are in the helping field.  Go to school and/or attend a teach-in on May Day and the International Workers' Movement. Read up on May Day and the Labor Movement.
