OCTOBER

Sun. 10/4 10:00 a.m. Blessing of the Beasts with Bishop Marc. Please attend the service. Bring your beast if you wish.

  • 11:30a.m. - Noon Bagels and Donuts: Youth Group Coffee Hour in the Youth Room.
  • No evening meeting

Sat 10/10 Noon - 4:30 p.m. Volunteer at the Alameda County Community Food Bank. We will meet at the church, eat our bag lunches and then carpool to and from the work site. So, bring lunch!

  • Limit 17 youth, plus we need 6 adults.
  • CnC Class - you will need to please get your act together with the sponsor forms to raise $ for the Food Bank, as per your agreement with the Vestry. Who will do this????

  • 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Youth Group - Trick or Treat Scavenger Hunt - We will hunt for canned food and silly items in the neighborhood. We need 6 adult drivers/chaperones.

NOVEMBER

11/1 10:00 a.m. All Saints Service and Adoption Sunday

  • All children and adults who are adopted will receive a blessing. Invite your friends and family who are adopted, as well as you!
  • 11:30 - 12:30 p.m. Mission Trip meeting in the Fischer Room. Youth and parents to plan fundraisers and go over details.
  • 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Youth Group: Love, Sex and Abstinence. We will have an open and honest discussion about your questions. All confidential.

Sun. 11/8 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. GUYS Only Youth Group. After watching part of "Mall Cop" we will be having an open and honest talk about alcohol and how it affects our body and mind.

Sun. 11/15 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. GIRLS Only Youth Group. After watching part of "Mall Cop" we will be having an open and honest talk about alcohol and how it affects our body and mind.

Sun. 11/22 11:15 - 3:00 p.m. Volunteer at the Alameda County Community Food Bank. Space limited to 17 youth. We will meet at the church with our bag lunches, then car pool to and from the site. Adult drivers needed too.

DECEMBER

Sun. 12/6 10:00 a.m. All baked goods dropped off at the kitchen.

  • Noon Bake Sale for Toys for Tots. All your homemade baked goods will raise $ for the Oakland Mayor's toy drive. We need a family to volunteer to run this Bake Sale - it's easy!
  • 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Youth Group: See the Light! We will talk about the meaning of the holiday and life, with the help of Green Day!

Tues. 12/8 5:00 - 6:00 p.m. Toy shopping at CVS/Long's Drugs at 51st and Broadway.

Sun. 12/13 10:00 a.m. Youth Choir Concert: Xmas! (Putting X in your Christmas)

  • Foodraiser for St. James Emergency Food Pantry - bring canned foods to help stock the shelves - the need never seems to go away.
  • Noon - 1:00 p.m. Mission Trip meeting for parents and youth
  • 6:30 - 8:00 p-.m. Youth Group: Advent Games. Take a break from studying and come play a fun game and Sardines. Bring a wrapped gift (spend no more than $10) for our game!

Wed. 12/16 5:30 - 7:00 p.m. BART caroling at Rockridge station. Dinner to follow at Cactus Taqueria. Bring $.

Thurs. 12/24 CHRISTMAS EVE

  • 4:30 p.m. Christmas Pageant - Family Service - Eucharist
  • 6:30 p.m. Christmas Eve Choral Service If you read music, consider singing in the Christmas Eve Excelsior Choir directed by Sara E! Only 1 ½ rehearsals!
  • 10:00 p.m. Carol Sing and special Christmas music, followed by Choral Eucharist leading up to midnight.

Sun. 1/10 10:00 - 10:45 a.m. Mission Trip Fundraiser meeting for all!

  • 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Youth and Parents Holy Spirit Potluck. Bring a salad or hot dish for 10. I will supply the drinks and dessert. The Holy Spirit shows up without our planning and we will all be well fed! We will also play games that address the issues we all face of acceptance and rejection in our daily lives.

  • 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Youth Group meeting: JAIL - We will watch a video of a man who spends 30 days in jail, some of it in solitary confinement. It will make you think twice before you mouth off to a cop or break the law!

FEBRUARY

Sun. 2/7 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. Mission Trip meeting

  • 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Youth Group Souper Bowl Party. We will plan our 30-hour Famine Retreat in February and play Sardines.

Fri 2/12 to Sun 2/14 Happening Retreat (location tba) This is a great once-a-year Episcopal Youth Retreat for High School youth from all around the Bay Area. If you have been you may be able to go as Staff. Forms to be out in January. You do not want to miss this event!

Sun. 2/14 No evening meeting

Tues. 2/17 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Pancake Dinner hosted by the youth. All parents and youth are asked to work part of the event. Details to follow.

Sun. 3/21 6:30 - 8:00 p.m. Anger IS Good! We will learn healthy ways to express and respond to anger. We do have fun!

Sun. 3/28 9:00 a.m. Family Service at St. John's.

  • Mission Trip Field Trip to the Tactile Dome at the Exploratorium in SF.
    • 10:00 a.m. to Gather to carpool to and from the city. Cost is $20 per person which includes your
    • 3:30 p.m. entrance to the Exploratorium. You will need to bring a bag lunch. We have reservations for Noon and 1:45 to get in to the Tactile Dome. You will only go in one of the times as only 20 are allowed in at a time It is a maze that you must crawl around in the dark to get out. This is a get-out-of-your-comfort-zone experience, but so much fun! This is a must-attend-event for those going on the trip. If there is extra space, I will let the others know.

4/11 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Movie and Pizza Night - A must if you are going to the Aptos Retreat.

April 16 - 18 or April 23 - 25 are possible dates for the Aptos Retreat.

  • Whatever weekend we do not go, there will be no meeting.

Sat. 4/17 and 4/24 Rebuilding Oakland Projects. For ages 14 - 16 with a parent; 16 or older OK. More details in February.

Sun. 4/25 No evening meeting (see above regarding Aptos Retreat).
