Children & Youth
St. John's Sunday School is a school year Christian education program that uses Bible-based curricula for each age group. Volunteer adults and youth work as team teachers. More than 150 children are enrolled in St. John’s Sunday School. The Rev. Bill Trego is Sunday School Coordinator. Sunday School teachers provide this popular, interactive program helping our children grow in love, spirituality, and morality. Register for Sunday School
- Pre-School/Kindergarten (ages 3-5 years) up to 3rd Grade: These classes engage in the Godly Play program. Godly Play is patterned after the Montessori philosophy of teaching, inviting the children to enter into the sacred stories to “wonder” about the significance of these stories for their lives. At the conclusion of the storytelling and wondering time, the children are given the opportunity to respond to the story through art or through working with the story materials on their own. Godly Play also has a strong liturgical and worship emphasis. The program is constantly mindful of the church year, as well as the sacraments. www.godlyplay.org
- 4th, 5th and 6th grade: The upper elementary class uses the Bible Song program. Bible Song is an exciting multimedia-based program that teaches passages of scripture using catchy songs, games, cartoons and art. This program is produced by Faith Inkubators, whose Faith Stepping Stones series for families has been used at St. John’s in previous years. Though Bible Song has a different approach than Godly Play, it shares a strong commitment to engage the children’s senses without offering a “watered-down” version of the stories. After three years of Bible Song, our youth will know nearly 100 verses of Scripture! www.faithink.com/inkubators/biblesong2.asp
- Bagels & Bibles: 10:00 – 10:45 am: 7th through 12th graders meet together in the Vestry Room.
- Nursery (infant to 3 years) is a welcoming, joyful and safe place to make friends. A Bible story and snack are part of each Sunday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. (No sick children, please.). Note that older children through first grade may visit the nursery before, but not during, church. (Safety and fun for the infants are our primary concern.) The nursery is on the first floor near the sanctuary and is staffed by a child care provider certified in infant/child CPR and First Aid.
