Ministries
St. John's is a dynamic environment, with lay members of the congregation leading and overseeing key ministries. We invite you learn more by reviewing the key ministries and programs we offer--and to get involved!
Prayer Ministries: Whether individually or in community, there are many different ways to participate in prayer at St. John’s Church. For further information about the ministries listed below, please contact Sandra Ahn at sjahn_vienna@yahoo.com.
Communications: A parish can never have too much communication. Whether by Sunday announcements, website, newsletter, weekly email, or the occasional letter, St. John’s strives to keep everyone informed.
Education: An extensive list of education programs from birth through adulthood
In Reach: St. John’s ministries to its own members and visitors include healing ministries and services, a Prayer Circle, a Casserole Brigade to support families during times of illness, death, or other stress, education programs, recreational events (our baseball team, the Saints and Sinners, slugs it out in the spring and summer) and many other activities.
Out Reach: St. John’s outward-facing ministries involve financial and volunteer support through our Samaritan Project, including St. James’ Food Pantry, Bay Area Seafarers Service, the Evangelical School for Children in Ramallah, Towne House, A Friendly Place, The Women's Refuge, the Rebuilding Together-Oakland Program and others. St. John's also supports the diocesan Episcopal Charities.
Worship - Lay Liturgical Ministries: Worship is central to the life of the church. Liturgy, which shapes our worship, is, by definition, “the work of the people.” Participants in the liturgical ministries assist the clergy in our worship services. All of these ministries require clergy support and approval as well as specific training. The schedules for all these areas are prepared about every three months by the Lay Ministry Coordinators and the Office Administrator.
